Central quarterback Katravis Marsh lead Dade All-Stars over Broward All-Stars

After playing well and flirting with MVP honors two weeks ago in the Private/Public All-Star game, Miami Central quarterback Katravis Marsh came out and turned in another impressive performance on Friday night as he led his Miami-Dade All-Stars to a 21-12 victory over Broward in the annual Tru Sports Foundation Dade/Broward All-Star game at Milander Stadium.

Despite only playing the first half, Marsh, who led the Rockets to the Class 6A state championship last month, threw for over 250 yards and fired three touchdown passes as the Dade stars took a 21-12 lead to the locker room at halftime, which was followed by a scoreless second half. The performance earned Marsh the game’s Offensive MVP honors.

“It was my last high school game tonight so I wanted it to be special,” said Marsh who has verbally committed to the University of South Florida and is expected to sign with the Bulls on signing day Feb. 5. “I wanted to come out and have some fun with my teammates tonight and try and win the game at the same time and it all worked out. Winning MVP while playing the game that I love is special, and I’m looking forward to the next challenge going to South Florida.”

Marsh’s favorite target turned out to be Norland wide receiver Charles Roberts, who caught 10 passes including the first touchdown, a 7-yarder in the first quarter to put Dade up 7-0.

But the Broward stars answered when Dillard QB Zamir Jones found Kevin Larkins Jr. from Fort Lauderdale on a 30-yard scoring pass before Coral Glades defensive back Isaiah Brown then picked off a Marsh pass and returned it 20 yards for a score and putting Broward up 12-7.

But Marsh didn’t flinch as he kept firing passes, eventually tossing two more scoring strikes to Carol City’s DeAndre Stafford from 14 yards and Northwestern’s Kemani Brown from 18 yards to give his team the nine-point lead that it protected in the second half. Brown was named the game’s Outstanding Defensive Player.

“We were lucky because we managed to cut the roster down to 45, which enabled to get all the kids a little more playing time because that’s ultimately what you want to do in a game like this,” said Hialeah coach Gary Sanchez, who headed up the Dade squad. “We had a lot of fun in practice but the kids knew how to fasten their chin straps and show up and play tonight representing Dade County and did a great job out there.”
