Former Gators QB Feleipe Franks is transferring to another SEC school.
After deciding to leave the University of Florida via the transfer portal in early December, former Gators quarterback Feleipe Franks announced where he was heading in an Instagram post Monday night.
Franks is transferring to Arkansas.
But any potential matchup with his former school would only take place in both the Gators and Razorbacks reached the SEC Championship Game. UF does not play Arkansas during SEC play in 2020.
Franks wrote, “New Beginnings,” as a caption to a photo of him standing with his back turned in an Arkansas uniform next to a Razorbacks logo in the social media post.
His location on the post was Fayetteville, Arkansas. With the Hogs, Franks can enroll and play immediately as a graduate transfer.
Franks’ career in Gainesville saw him blossom once Dan Mullen arrived as the Gators head coach. Mullen, who is known for coaching quarterbacks such as Alex Smith, Tim Tebow and Dak Prescott, morphed Franks into a quarterback who led the Gators to a New Year’s Six Bowl victory in the 2018 season.
He had completed 76.1 percent of his passes in 2019 when he sustained a season-ending ankle injury against Kentucky in September. That led to backup Kyle Trask taking over and asserting himself as UF’s starting quarterback. Trask led the Gators to another a New Year’s Six bowl victory as they defeated Virginia in the Orange Bowl.
Prior to that game, Franks announced Dec. 1 his intentions to transfer.
“It has been my dream to play at the University of Florida,” Franks wrote on Instagram on Dec. 1. “To play for a top program and contribute to winning games. I have been so fortunate to meet as many amazing people as I have while being here. Coaches, players, and fans as well. My heart will always be a part of the Gator family.
“Coach Mullen and coach [Brian] Johnson have meant so much to me, and I want to thank both of them for putting their trust in me. I also want to thank Mr. Jeremy Foley and Mr. Scott Stricklin as well, as everybody inside the football facility has always had my back no matter what.”
According to 247 Sports, Franks, who is from Crawfordville Wakulla High in North Florida, chose Arkansas over in-state UCF and Kansas.
