This former Miami Hurricanes running back is transferring to this rival
Not long after entering the transfer portal, former Miami Hurricanes running back Lorenzo Lingard has found a new home.
And he’s staying in the Sunshine State.
Lingard announced on social media that he’s transferring to the Florida Gators four days after he put his name into the transfer portal.
“I am truly blessed and thankful to be a Gator,” Lingard said on Twitter. “The people who made this possible have changed my life. I am ready to do whatever it takes to become the best Gator as a team player and student athlete. I know my Dad is excited for this. I want to maximize everything.”
Lingard was a consensus five-star recruit and rated the No. 2 running back for the 2018 class. Lingard, who signed with Miami out of Orange City University High in Central Florida, chose the Gators over reported interest from UCF and Ohio State.
Lingard underwent major knee surgery in October 2018 after picking up an injury in practice. That ended his freshman season, and he did not record a carry in two games in 2019, while retaining redshirt status.
To play immediately with the Gators, Lingard will need an NCAA waiver.
