Newly appointed Florida State football coach Mike Norvell told reporters Sunday he needed a little time to decide whether he wouldd coach Memphis in the Cotton Bowl.

On Tuesday, a letter from Norvell was published in the Daily Memphian where he thanked the Memphis community.

He also revealed his choice about leading the Tigers into the New Year’s Six Bowl clash with Penn State.

In the letter, Norvell wrote, “With the transition to a new opportunity and a restricted calendar, which is unique to this year, I will not be able to coach the Cotton Bowl.”

Instead, Norvell is 100 percent focused on FSU. The Seminoles have seen multiple recruits decommit since Willie Taggart was fired on Nov. 3, though they have maintained a grip on other commits.

One of the important names in this year’s recruiting class is dual-threat quarterback Jeff Sims of Jacksonville Sandalwood High.

The consensus four-star recruit is rated the seventh-best dual-threat QB of the 2020 class. But securing his pledge is important for the Seminoles considering there wasn’t a quarterback signed in either of the last two recruiting cycles.

Instead, FSU relied on the transfer portal to secure three signal-callers last season.
