Michael Solomon, Former NYPD and Intelligence Officer, Turns into a Best-Selling Author
Michael Solomon, a former NYPD detective, turned into a best-selling author and 2023 Pulitzer nominee after retiring. But his years in law enforcement were not left behind.
Using his passion for seeking the truth, during his tenure in the Police Department, he discovered a flaw in the NYC payroll procedures. In 1981, he proposed a change to the NYC disability law, which, when enacted, saved the city over $200 million, reduced taxes, and balanced the city’s budget.
When asked how his years in law enforcement help him now, Solomon said, “It taught me to search for the truth — not to take things at face value but to dig deep to find the answers that will prove the guilt or innocence of the person or persons I was investigating. I constantly searched for pragmatic evidence, not consensus opinion, because I never wanted to put an innocent person in jail. “
So what led Solomon to writing? When asked the author of six best-selling books shared, “I feel exhilarated when I put the last period in the last sentence of my manuscripts. Then comes the analysis, which is the process of editing, cover design, and physical printing of the first review copy. It is like giving birth. You then read it over as I prepare to sign off on the proof; I sometimes second-guess myself if I wrote enough or could have done better. It is not until you start to receive those first reviews that you are able to exhale.”
His most recent opinion-based commentary novel, “Allegory – How One Man’s Lies, Deceit, Arrogance And Greed Has Gaslighted The World” has been nominated for the 2023 Pulitzer Prize.
