Fun Things to Do in Miami In January 2026
As January brings slick roads and snow days to the rest of the country, Miami remains a tropical paradise perfect for a winter getaway.
Come January, Miami beckons visitors with temperatures in the 60s and 70s and a full slate of cultural, culinary, and outdoor activities. From jazz festivals to museums to oceanside dining, there’s no shortage of things to do in Miami in January, making it the best time to take a break from the cold and see the destination at its best.
Come January, Miami feels alive, according to the team at the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau (GMCVB). The GMCVB offers all the resources you need to plan an itinerary packed with sand, sun, and the best sights and sounds Miami has to offer.
Outdoor Things to Do in Miami in January
January is the ideal time to get out and experience some of Miami’s natural attractions. Getting outside for some time on the water, outdoor workouts, or sunbathing is an essential part of the Miami wellness lifestyle, GMCVB’s team said.
GMCVB recommends Virginia Key Beach Park for January visitors, who can experience Biscayne Bay and Atlantic Ocean views, beautiful biking trails, kayak and paddleboard tours through the mangroves, and pristine surf and sand at this historic beach.
If you’re up for a drive, head south to Biscayne National Park, the largest marine sanctuary in the U.S. National Parks system. The park is 95% underwater, making it ideal for snorkeling, boating, and paddleboarding (especially in January, when the area’s manatees are easier to spot).
While both parks offer can’t-miss nature experiences, you don’t have to leave urban Miami to experience the great outdoors.
GMCVB points January visitors toward the Miami-adjacent city of Coral Gables — home to the beautiful spring-fed Venetian Pool and the stunning Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden — and the Coconut Grove neighborhood, a tropical paradise that offers remarkable outdoor experiences at spots like Vizcaya Museum & Gardens, The Barnacle Historic State Park, or Peacock Park. If you time your Coral Gables visit perfectly, you can experience A Festival of Chocolate, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden’s Jan. 24-25 celebration of all things cacao.
Arts & Culture
Music, visual arts, and rich history give Miami an extra layer of flavor you’ve got to experience for yourself. There are plenty of culture- and art-infused things to do in Miami in January, when the destination is ripe for exploration.
If you’re ready to wander some of Miami’s artistically important neighborhoods, start with Wynwood, a gallery and street art hub that features the famous Wynwood Walls. This collection of giant, incredible murals makes world-famous artists’ work accessible for all (plus, if you visit on the weekend, you’ll find Smorgasburg Miami offering some delectable eats just across the street).
Miami Beach also calls to art and culture lovers, who will find an explosion of stunning architecture, live performances, and luxury shopping and dining to explore.
The Miami Design Preservation League offers regular walking tours of the area’s historic Art Deco architecture, an activity definitely worth doing.
When it comes to culture and history, visitors can’t beat the neighborhoods of Little Havana, Little Haiti, and Overton, GMCVB’s team said. Home to Cuban, Haitian, and historically Black populations, respectively, each neighborhood features a rich, unique culinary and artistic tradition and highlights a history that may be new to you.
Whether you’re attending a football playoff game, visiting a pristine local beach, or strolling Miami’s artistic hubs, a January visit to Miami is sure to refresh, reinvigorate, and remind you of all the riches this destination has to offer.
