At a time when public education is often defined by challenges and uncertainty, Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) continues to demonstrate what is possible when excellence, accountability, safety, innovation and student success remain the highest priorities.

As the nation’s third-largest school district, M-DCPS serves more than 321,000 students and over 20,000 adult learners. Supported by nearly 29,000 dedicated employees, the district offers one of the country’s most comprehensive educational systems, from early childhood education through elementary, along with K-8 centers, middle and senior high school, advancing to career and technical education, adult learning and postsecondary workforce preparation.

The district’s success is built on the collective efforts of an extraordinary team. Teachers transform lives every day, school leaders and administrative staff foster academic excellence, support personnel keep campuses running efficiently, police officers maintain safe learning environments and bus drivers and cafeteria employees ensure students have the support they need to succeed. Parents and families play a vital role, reinforcing the partnership between schools and the community.

The school board has consistently placed students at the center of its decisions through responsible leadership, sound fiscal stewardship and a clear vision for continuous improvement. Working alongside the superintendent and district leadership, the Board has helped build a culture of excellence recognized across Florida and the nation.

That commitment continues to produce measurable results. For seven years, the county school system has earned an A district rating from the Florida Department of Education, reflecting sustained academic excellence and continuous improvement. The recently released 2025-2026 School Performance Grades further underscore that success: 63% of graded schools earned an A, 24% received a B and 12% earned a C. Remarkably, 99% of all graded schools earned an A, B, or C, and no traditional M-DCPS school received a D or F.

Student achievement extends beyond school grades. The district’s traditional public schools maintain a 95% graduation rate, surpassing many state and national benchmarks. This achievement reflects a sustained commitment to preparing students for college, careers, military service and lifelong success.

Career and technical education has become another hallmark of the district’s leadership. M-DCPS leads the nation with 60 National Academy Foundation (NAF) Distinguished Academies and three NAF Model Academies, the most of any school district in the United States. These nationally recognized academies combine rigorous academics with industry-designed curricula, work-based learning, and paid internships.

Excellence also extends to financial stewardship. The Government Finance Officers Association recently awarded the School Board its Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025. For 41 consecutive years, the district has received the organization’s highest recognition for transparency, accountability and responsible fiscal management — an extraordinary record that reflects decades of prudent leadership and careful stewardship of taxpayer dollars.

Like school districts nationwide, M-DCPS also navigates significant challenges. Declining enrollment, changing demographics, housing costs, expanded school choice, migration patterns and evolving workforce demands require thoughtful planning and strategic decision-making. At the same time, advances in artificial intelligence, automation and technology are rapidly transforming the skills students will need to succeed.

Meeting these challenges requires continued investment in high-quality instruction, career pathways, technology, and student support services while maintaining a relentless focus on academic achievement and innovation. Success will also depend on strong partnerships among families, educators, businesses, higher education institutions and community organizations working toward a shared goal: preparing every student for success in an increasingly complex world.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools has demonstrated that high expectations, strong leadership, fiscal responsibility and unwavering commitment to students produce exceptional results. As our community looks to the future, we should continue supporting the educators, employees and administrators whose dedication makes these achievements possible.

Their work is not only transforming the lives of hundreds of thousands of students — it is strengthening the future of Miami-Dade County itself.
