Letters to the Editor

No homeland

The Aug. 30 letter, “Palestinian rights,” says that there will be no peace unless Israel stops its bullying. But the writer seems misinformed as to which side is the bully.

Which side launched three wars to try to drive Israel into the sea? Which side said they would never recognize a Jewish state of Israel and would not allow one Jew to live on Palestinian territory? All Israel wants is a homeland of its own, to live in peace with freedom from fear of rocket attacks, suicide bombers, assassins and threats of annihilation.

If the Palestinians were willing to grant that, they would have had a homeland of their own 68 years ago when it was first offered to them by the United Nations in 1948 and they refused it.
