Opa-locka leaders’ responses to the state’s oversight board are ludicrous. Mayor Myra Taylor was “highly disappointed in the board’s non-action coming up with viable solutions.” Maybe if she and her just-as-culpable husband paid their own $120,000 water bill, solutions would not be needed. Maybe if she did not tap into highly restricted funds to pay bills, same thing. Maybe if the commissioners paid for their own cars and phones, like other working people, this mess would not have occurred. Maybe, if city workers didn’t blackmail utility users, there wouldn’t be a problem.
I would say that Opa-locka is being run like a third world nation. However, that would be an affront to third-world nations.
