An avoidable tragedy

Re the Feb. 10 article Report: State erred in dismissing call: Something is terribly wrong when an untrained person in an attorney’s office could assume that a 5-year-old child was in imminent danger from her agitated, pajama-clad, delusional, mentally ill father, but a supposedly trained counselor from Florida’s child-abuse hotline determined that truancy was the issue.

Recent legislation did not go far enough to ensure that the people responsible for making life-and-death decisions for children are adequately trained and supervised.

Another completely avoidable tragedy.
