The 2016 fiscal year budget by the Obama administration has called for the various food watchdogs to be housed under a new agency as reported in the Feb. 3 article How Obama would spend your money in 2016, agency by agency.
This idea, while noble, seems like it will have more opposition in Congress than support. I’m not sure that creating another bureaucratic agency is the solution to the problem faced by the country.
The way to ensure that food is passing strict standards may be to have more personnel out in the field inspecting where the food originates.
Legislation must also be passed that provides for more funding to the agencies already in place to help their existing efforts.
