Justice for librarian

Rest in peace, Mary Knowlton. She was shot to death by Punta Gorda, Florida police officer Lee Coel at police department gun demonstration.

It should not be called an accident; I believed it was murder.

Chief Tom Lewis hired this cop with a troubled history in 2014 knowing full well of his background.

Because of his lack of judgment in bringing this incompetent officer onto his force, he should do the right thing and resign. Otherwise

Lewis needs to be fired and stripped of all his credentials. Coel should be charged with murder, or at least negligent homicide, and never be allowed to work in law enforcement again.

Anyone else would be arrested under similar conditions — that is if they were not police officers.

This lovely lady did not deserve this and would be alive if some basic safety rules had been followed.

It will probably be swept under the rug like so many other unjustified police killings.

Ronnie R. Howard,

Punta Gorda
