Gay mentors spurned
I was happy to see the Jan. 30 Other Views article Become a ‘Big’ and help a ‘Little,’ about Big Brothers and was also happy to see that the organization is doing well.
In 1991, I applied for the Big Brothers program. Coming from a large family, and being a college professor, I knew the importance of mentoring.
However, at my application interview I also was open about the fact that I was a gay man.
I never heard from the organization again.
I wish the organization well, as it does an extremely important job, but I hope that it has re-examined its policies.
