Kudos from a Big Brother
After seeing page the 1A ads in Friday’s Miami Herald for a gun show and a beer festival, I was tempted to write a letter to the editor asking what’s next on the front, ads for ladies of the evening? Then I saw your Other Views op-ed page headlined “Call to Action, Become a ‘Big’ and Help a ‘Little’.”
As a long-time Big Brother who was matched to six Littles in South Florida, I commend the Herald for devoting an entire page to the importance of mentoring children at risk. I can vouch for the success of the program and I encourage potential Bigs to participate.
My Littles are adults now, and we keep in touch. I was best man for one and a groomsman for two others at their weddings.
