No growth needed

Why do we have to have continued growth? Why can’t we improve and upgrade what we have?

For example, retrain people who are in low paying jobs to have better skills, which in turn enhances the quality of the workforce, which in turn is more attractive to prospective employers.

Sustainable doesn’t mean growth — it means taking care of and recycling what you have. The American Dream Miami mega-mall in northwest Miami-Dade, is an economic and traffic disaster waiting to happen.

The handwriting is on the wall that retail establishments are decreasing. And we all know the traffic situation.

Let’s focus on improving what we have and ensuring that the infrastructure — water supplies, energy, roads and bridges — will be able to support what is already here into the future.

Dolly MacIntyre,

Coral Gables
