Reduce poverty?

Cynthia M. Allen’s tribute to the GOP’s Paul Ryan’s mission to fight poverty in the June 26 article, An enlightened Paul Ryan on a mission to change how we address poverty — really, was devoid of specific policies.

She opines that President Johnson’s War on Poverty didn’t reduce the percentage of Americans in poverty. Actually, the Great Society quickly reduced poverty from 30 to 15 percent of our citizens. No further reductions occurred after Ronald Reagan ushered in 36 years of a GOP whose “poverty plan” is to cut taxes for billionaires and deny health insurance to the poor.

How will Ryan’s cuts to Medicare and Social Security reduce poverty?
