I’m sorry that the Good Government Initiative at the University of Miami is going away. Katy Sorenson has completed this goal in her very productive life.
When she left the Miami-Dade County Commission, I totally understood that enough was enough for this talented, honest and intelligent woman. She had defended the environment and fended off greedy developers long enough — 16 years. When I heard of her next project, I knew she would be a success once again.
Long ago, I asked Katy why she didn’t run for Congress. She replied that she had been to Washington to scope out that possibility. She was put off by the fact that she would have to spend 30 percent of her time raising campaign money. That was not what she is all about.
We all wish her luck and happiness in her new role as a private citizen.
