No English speakers
The June 21 editorial, Income inequality needs a team effort, misses a vital point.
The issue of non-Spanish-speaking residents unable to find employment because they are not bilingual is a serious factor that contributes to income inequality in Miami-Dade. A majority of posted employment ads require bilingualism, hence shutting out the African-American community. This is discriminatory.
We should not be discarded. We are responsible for the formation of the city of Miami. African Americans’ only chance is with government employment. Miami-Dade’s high poverty rate can also be traced to the outright discrimination toward African Americans. Let’s not minimize this issue.
