General elections
It’s my understanding that the primary elections were developed to solicit input from party members to help determine the party’s nominee in a general election.
The carping by independents — people who chose not to affiliate with any party — or members of the other party is wrong. If someone wants to help nominate someone for a particular party, then be willing to register with that party.
The time for open elections already exists: the general election.
