Miami Beach flooding
According to a Jan. 25 Miami Herald article, Miami Beach wants to raise West Avenue because of flooding that has occurred over the years. When a hurricane hit Miami Beach years ago, the Fontainebleau lobby was flooded.
For about a year, we have been undergoing extensive roadwork, which was supposed to alleviate the problem of flooding, and now the city want to raise the streets two feet, which would cause undue inconvenience to the residents and businesses.
Miami Beach citizens must protest this latest proposal. What they did in New Orleans with the Army Corps of Engineers is more likely to resolve the issue by building a firewall on the bay.
