Letters to the Editor

Baseball hero

Greg Cote wrote a delightful and motivational article about Richard Bleier, who is a New York Yankee (Bronx cheer: Davie kid makes it big in N.Y., June 5).

In today’s high school sports scene we seem to only read private school success stories. But this story shows that perseverance can pay off for public school students as well.

The family’s reaction brought a smile to my face, especially the comment from his dad about the “best ERA in baseball history.”

I am delighted to hear about an athletic success from South Plantation High. I was the first woman athletic director in Broward many years ago (and even a Miami Herald Track and Field Coach of the Year).

Alyce Culpepper,

Plantation
