PGA hurts charities

I was saddened and troubled by the PGA’s decision to move its golf tournament from Doral to Mexico City.

If PGA officials are motivated by some perverse logic that the move is a political statement about Donald Trump — they missed the mark.

What the PGA has accomplished is to hurt the tourism, sports and service economies of South Florida, a region of devoted golf fans that have loyally supported the tournament for many years.

More cruelly, the PGA has severely damaged the local charities that have been supported by the tournament’s proceeds. Year after year, hundreds of people have volunteered endless hours to ensure the tournament’s success on behalf of many worthy causes.
