Muslim challenges

Thank you for sharing a powerful perspective of the challenges facing Muslim families in South Florida (Life as an American Muslim, June 6).

The stories are an important reminder of how desperately the Muslim community in America needs leadership that both in public and private strives to inspire 21st-century followers of their revered Prophet to the greatest potential of their lives.

As with every other immigrant community that is part of the diverse American mosaic, the values woven into our founding documents and inherent rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are non-negotiable.

No matter their religion, culture or ethnicity, those who wholeheartedly want to help us create a better America, who can sincerely pledge allegiance “to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all” should always be welcomed, encouraged and protected.
