Distracted drivers?

Traffic woes in South Florida get vented here from time to time. But consider the fact that those lamenting could actually be part of the problem.

Drivers tethered to their wireless devices have less control of their vehicles. The car slows, moves from side to side, directional signals become obsolete and/or the vehicle will just sit there when a light turns green.

They don’t have to be texting, talking or surfing; the fact that the thing is in their hand minimizes dexterity because the other hand is changing the radio, adjusting the mirror, applying makeup, grasping a latte — anything except grasping the steering wheel. Multiply that by tens of thousands. Wow!
