Political civility

Regarding civility and political discourse: One definition for abyss is “a situation of apparently unending awfulness.” Recent comments during this political cycle continue to descend into a chasm that makes one wonder if civil discourse is a thing of the past.

The continuing comments by the “presumptive nominee” of the Republican Party are xenophobic, misogynistic and racist.

It’s strange how no one in his party has tried to bring him to heel.

To add insult to injury, a candidate for Marco Rubio’s U.S. Senate seat referred to President Obama as an “animal.”

Apparently, neither of these candidates has a clue as to how their disparaging comments affect others.

Shame on those of us in the public arena who fail to speak out about the damaging commentary being spewed by aspiring politicians, none of whom I wish to represent me.

Ollie Daniels,

Pembroke Pines
