Police progress

Last week, the Miami-Dade County Community Relations Board was pleased to host Juan Perez, the newly appointed director of the Miami-Dade Police Department, for a conversation on issues of interest to the CRB.

Perez detailed the many important and proactive initiatives under way at the department dealing with issues ranging from victims’ rights and diversity on the force to gang and gun violence on the streets of our county. It was gratifying to hear and gain an understanding of his “It takes a village” approach to community policing.

The CRB, whose mission it is to identify and work to reduce tensions wherever they exist in Miami-Dade County, thanks and looks forward to a long and successful relationship with Director Perez.

Ed Shohat, chair, Miami-Dade County Community Relations Board, Miami
