DUI arrest

I am totally astounded that it took Miami-Dade police three weeks to arrest Marilyn Aquilera for DUI. (Driver arrested, faces DUI charge in crash that maimed South Dade principal, May 18)

Aquilera failed the roadside sobriety test with a .227 reading, three times over the legal limit, one hour after the accident. She also smelled of alcohol and had a large open can of beer that spilled on the floorboard. What else did they need!

I have several friends who have been stopped for DUI and were asked if they were willing to take the roadside sobriety test. Those that took it and failed were arrested and those that refused it were arrested and their cars impounded.

No discussion or wiggle room, even though none of them were involved in an accident when stopped, none had open liquor in the car.

Apparently that was enough evidence for those officers, but having a horrific accident with life threatening injuries, wasn’t quite enough evidence for these officers. .
