More troopers
Almost daily we read of additional and disturbing carnage on our roadways.
These tragic crashes are most prevalent on Interstate 95 and Interstate 75, but extend to most other heavily traveled roadways. The express lane system is a traffic engineering nightmare and so dangerous that most of the few troopers assigned to patrol it usually avoid it like the plague.
In most other areas, our FHP troopers are rarely seen except during their so-called enforcement details that are few and far between.
It is obvious that budget cuts, low morale caused by an inadequate pay scale, and a high turnover rate have gutted Troop E in Miami-Dade County and Troop L in Broward County.
Until our elected officials demand that this agency properly reward these troopers for the dangerous job they do, and provide additional staffing, these tragedies will continue to occur and many drivers will continue to drive in a dangerous and irresponsible manner.
