Mayor disrespectful
As a former Miami commissioner, I have never seen a mayor disregard the legislative process to the degree that Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez has with Liberty City Rising.
He has given the impression that his recommendation for selecting the developer is final.
He has also disrespected District 3 Commissioner Audrey Edmonson, as well as other county commissioners who have the final vote on the recommendation to select the developer.
Every mayor I have known and worked with has always given deference to a commissioner if something major was happening in his or her district.
Darryl Holsendolph’s May 5 letter, We need the new Liberty Square, should be disregarded because he isn’t the authorized spokesperson for the Miami-Dade NAACP. Our president, Dr. Shirley Johnson is that person.
