Love of country

Which is it: “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands” or “I pledge allegiance to my particular political party and the candidate who it supports”?

Any number of people seem to be more concerned about the future of their political party than the future of the country.

I have been registered with one political party for more than 50 years, but I have never voted for an individual because he or she is a member of the same political party. I dare say that my love of country transcends political considerations.
