The costs of Uber

Uber is now legal and laughing all the way to the bank. Meanwhile, Miami-Dade County is mired in a $1 billion lawsuit and local transportation business owners are scrambling to understand what this new ordinance means to the permit value of their company.

Mayor Carlos Gimenez stated, “The winners are the people of Miami-Dade County.” In fact, the true winners are Uber’s board of directors and investors counting their profits from an independent-operator business model being challenged in courts throughout the United States.

The losers in this political mess are the taxpayers that will be forced to fund a legal bill that the mayor and nine county commissioners could have averted with a No vote, as well as the residents who will have to deal with unlimited ride sharing service vehicles being added to the already congested Miami roadways.
