GOP dismisses Zika virus

One has to wonder, with the refusal by the Republican Senate and House leadership to take the Zika virus seriously, why Marco Rubio is still a Republican. He has seen the panic in the doctors’ eyes. The CDC says that it needs the $1.9 billion now and cannot wait for the normal appropriation process.

The Republican leadership has compared the Zika virus to the Ebola virus, which was not as much a threat to the health of Americans. Ebola is transmitted by having direct contact with the bodily fluids of the infected person. But anyone with a brain can see that the Zika virus is transmitted by mosquitoes and through sexual intercourse with an infected person.

Zika virus is dangerous. It causes birth defects, including microcephaly. The Republican Senate and House leadership are very much against abortion, but it appears they don’t care how the babies are born.
