Stamp out malaria
Sunday, scores of Temple Beth Am basketball players will participate in Nets for Nets, tournament that will raise $5,000 to purchase mosquito nets to combat malaria. Between 300 million to 600 million people a year are infected with malaria, which endangers more than half the world’s population. Areas of sub-Saharan Africa and Haiti are most prone to deadly infection.
We at Temple Beth Am Day School have decided to introduce students to this scourge, not only to increase their knowledge and compassion for others, but to let them know how they can take concrete steps to help.
Malaria can be prevented. One of the best weapons is a simple mosquito net. We are using our award-winning basketball team to raise funds to buy mosquito nets, which only cost $10.
