Car inspection woes
The letter writers who want car inspections reinstated may not be aware that they were discontinued because the inspection stations were overwhelmed, with cars lining up daily for hours. Heaven forbid if one inspector was absent; drivers were turned away and told to come back the next day.
This well-meaning protocol resulted in car owners repeatedly being forced to take time off from work. And we won’t even bring up vivid memories of whole neighborhoods suffocating in car fumes because of all the cars that were lined up with their running engines in order to stay air-conditioned while waiting in the broiling hot sun.
It was a sensible decision to do away with this nightmare.
