FIU’s move
FIU President Mark Rosenberg was preceded into South Florida by his reputation as a smoke-and-mirrors guy.
Not all of us here are so easily duped by his implication that only accredited and certificated higher education is clearly more deserving of public support and resources than that “carnival commotion” known as The Fair.
His plan is to grow the Modesto A. Maidique Campus by 2,000 students per year.
Has he never looked out his window at the traffic clogging the West Dade streets?
What would make the most sense and be of the greatest value to all residents of this community is for FIU to move its expansion to the site near Homestead. It already has the Biscayne Bay campus to serve North Dade and South Broward.
A Homestead Campus would serve the rapidly-growing South Dade area as well as the Upper Keys — plus it would keep all that clearly unwanted additional vehicular traffic away from the current gridlock.
