Traffic disruptions

Traffic is terrible already, but it’s made worse by some local officials who seem to think they are responsible for business promotion and entertainment. They grant exclusive or semi-exclusive use of our roads along the coast, downtown and on causeways for special events, to the detriment of our ability to move around.

Preventing roads from being used as intended — by people who need to go somewhere — wastes the time of both residents and visitors, who regularly get stuck in traffic clogged by such events.

The events themselves may be meritorious, but why can’t they be held at, for example, Greynolds Park, Matheson Hammock, Bill Baggs Park on Key Biscayne or other such venues? Alternately, why not build a specific venue for such events, far inland and without traffic disruptions?
