Cuban consulate

I am delighted to learn that not all Miami-Dade politicians are trapped in the Cold War.

Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine is to be congratulated for meeting with a Cuban diplomat to discuss the possibility of locating a consulate in that city.

With due respect for his family history, Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado should be ashamed for giving in to real or imagined threats to our “peace and tranquility.” The truth is that he is a captive of history, and it’s time to move on.

Miami should use the new opening with Cuba to help free its people and create new political and commercial reality on both sides of the Florida Straits.
