Beware cosmetic surgery

As I read the March 17 article State moves to revoke license of doctor in botched surgeries, regarding the sanctions imposed on Dr. Osakatukei Omulepu’s medical license, and my initial anger turned to sadness. I realized that this was just the tip of the iceberg.

This physician at one time or another has performed cosmetic surgery at Vanity, Straxx, Spectrum and Broward Cosmetic Centers. All are owned by businessmen who pay surgeons to perform the surgery and attract patients by aggressive marketing and the promise of cheap surgery.

Omulepo’s misdeeds are just a drop in the bucket. It is well documented that local hospital emergency rooms regularly care for patients suffering serious complications from some of these clinics.

It is high time for the public to realize that cosmetic surgery is surgery! A strip mall clinic renting a surgeon for the day could be hazardous to your health.
