Bikes vs. motorists

Two weeks ago and this past Saturday, I and dozens of other motorists were blocked in traffic near the area of Southwest 147th Avenue in the Redland. Both weekend gatherings required numerous county police officers with their vehicles stationed at every corner along the route.

Hundreds of bicyclists dodged autos and maneuvered around farm machinery.

This cannot be a safe situation for either party. Is this the best use of valuable county resources?

Why can’t these enthusiasts use the Homestead Speedway for this type of event? Everyone would be secure, and the cyclists would have the added benefit of having family and friends available to cheer them on.

Christopher Durgin,

Homestead
