Letters to the Editor

Demonizing Israel

Underneath the benign sounding Letter to the Editor, Speech stifled, (March 20 ) Noor Fawzy decries Florida anti-boycott legislation as a vitriolic anti-Semitic agenda.

While an undergraduate at FAU, Fawzy established Students for Justice in Palestine. This organization demonizes Israel with modern-day blood libels and vocally calls for the destruction of the Jewish state.

Under her leadership among its multiple anti-Israel and anti-Semitic activities at FAU, the organization posted eviction notices with fake Palm Beach County seals on the dormitory doors of Jewish students.

She was one of the organizers of Miami’s Third Intifada Rally for Palestine and was seen chanting “Long live the intifada” and “from the river to the sea free Palestine” — i.e. destroy Israel. hardly a gathering promoting nonviolence.

In the words of the US Commission on Civil Rights, anti-Semitic bigotry is no less morally deplorable when camouflaged as anti-Israelism or anti-Zionism.” If she is truly interested in promoting human rights, instead of focusing her hatred on Israel, she should devote her passion to the beheadings of women accused of adultery in the streets of Tehran, the flogging of gays, the stoning of women in Saudi Arabia and the “honor killings” of rape victims in the Palestinian territories.
