Protect residents from violence

The Liberty Square issue is deplorable as described in Fred Grimm’s Jan. 11 column, Raising kids where ‘we hit the deck’. It started with elected officials allowing the purchase of assault weapons, totally useless for hunting and not a item for home defense.

The police department must present the mayor with an action plan to keep these residents safe, even if the implementation requires funds. That can be obtained by a major cutback in administrative officials who seem clueless as to their responsibility to protect the citizens of this community.
