Bigoted law

The Florida Legislature passed a law protecting pastors from being sued for refusing to marry a same-sex couple. It is pure pandering to bigots who insist on calling themselves Christian. Any pastor can refuse to marry any couple that comes to him or her asking to be married.

That’s their freedom under the First Amendment.

A justice of the peace, on the other hand, is a public official and is sworn to uphold the law. He or she should be fired for refusing to marry a couple because they’re the same sex.

Likewise, a baker refusing to bake a wedding cake for a couple because they’re of the same sex should be prosecuted because they’re in business to serve the public and are not free to discriminate.

Not so with pastors.

They can discriminate at will, but one would wish that they stop calling themselves pastors.

Rev. Bud Klippen,
