It was with great sadness that I read the March 4 obituary of retired Judge Robert Kaye.
I first met Bob when I was a newly hired assistant state attorney in Miami. Despite the fact that he was the head of the Major Crimes Division at the time — and I was a nobody just starting my career — he always made himself available to help me understand the nuances of some of the first criminal cases I ever handled.
In later years I was pleased to practice before him when he was a Circuit Court judge in the Criminal Division. He was the type of judge who could dispense true justice while always having a warm, and much appreciated, sense of humor. A wonderful person, a wonderful lawyer and judge, and a wonderful inspiration to those of us who worked our way up the ranks at the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office. He will be missed.
