Miami’s contrasts

Re the Jan. 12 article Miami a leading luxury capital of the world: Although Miami is a location where many retreat to enjoy the luxuries of life, there is another side to the city that the five-star hotels, luxury cars and glamorous shops easily cover up. However, when the blinders are taken off, one can see homelessness, poverty and the huge gap between rich and poor.

This is not to say that Miami’s elegance shouldn’t be appreciated. For instance, Art Basel is a brilliant event that connects not only art, but people of different cultures. Vizcaya represents Miami’s uniqueness, splendor and beauty.

Yet, before we claim that Miami is the acropolis of luxury, it may be wise to reconsider.
