As a Venetian Islands resident, I have mixed feelings about the west bridge reopening. The closing has been an inconvenience, but I will miss the calm and quiet while it was being repaired.
To alleviate traffic tie-ups, I suggest permanently closing the east drawbridge, which hasn’t been operating while the other bridge was being fixed. The east bridge too often malfunctions, and even without problems, it creates long lines of cars when it goes up.
Purdy Avenue and the beach side of 17th Street are beyond any help, but the Venetian still has some hope of being saved.
