In less than a month, President Obama along with his wife, Michelle, will land in Cuba to a thunderous welcome from survivors of a suffocating 50-year-old embargo, that was designed to bring Cubans to their knees through hunger, sickness, desolation and death.
I hope this historic trip to Cuba will include Santiago de Cuba, home of the largest Afro-Cuban community, which has suffered the horrors of the embargo more than anyone else on the island.
As Obama and Raúl Castro have brought peace and harmony to our region, they can now seal this enormous accomplishment by bringing prosperity to these victims and by developing the neglected cities of Guantánamo and Santiago de Cuba.
