Convention hotel

For all of its positives, Miami-Dade County remains a place of great economic disparities — there are haves, have-nots and not very much in between. UNITE HERE Local 355 represents working-class Miamians who fall into that second category and are doing their best to raise families and make a decent living in one of America’s most expensive cities.

The proposed Miami Beach Convention Center hotel affords our members a clear opportunity to reach those goals. It will create hundreds of well-paying jobs in an industry that rewards hard work, gives those without lots of advantages a fighting chance and offers a real opportunity for folks to climb the professional ladder. In fact, the hospitality industry is one of the few places where the American Dream is still achievable.

Miami Beach residents, vote Yes, #60, on March 15.

Wendi Walsh, secretary-treasurer, UNITE HERE Local 355, Miami
