At 5:30 p.m. Friday, I left my home on the Venetian Causeway (bridge to Miami still closed) and headed to Little Haiti for the opening of an art exhibit. After an hour in gridlocked traffic on Alton Road on Miami Beach and adjacent side streets, dodging aggressive, impatient drivers, I wasn’t allowed by police officers directing traffic — a rarity — to turn onto 41st Street to head west on across the Julia Tuttle Causeway. At that point, frustrated and upset, I canceled my outing and returned home.
Jim Morin’s Feb. 14 cartoon about gridlock was spot-on and made me realize I am not alone in feeling so sad and distraught that we have created such an unlivable place. More, in this case, is not better.
