Fuzzy gun logic
In the Feb. 8 letter Guns and knives the writer recounts a recent multiple stabbing, and cynically creates a fictional and facetious gun-control-like response on banning knives.
One does not need to consult a copy of American Statistical Abstracts (which I did) to see the intellectual laziness of this position. A simple Google search will reveal that the percentage of shooting deaths as compared with any other form of murder victimization from 1965 to 2012 averages anywhere from 57.2 percent to 69.4 percent, and that combines stabbing with strangulation, blunt objects, arson, and all other weapons, but does not include suicide where guns are the predominant instrument of choice.
