View of gay marriage

Florida’s legalization of same-sex marriage has received a lot of coverage, as it should. No matter what one’s opinion, this is an historic event. What bothered me was the coverage —especially Fred Grimm’s Jan. 5 column, Florida gays win the right to marry, but no one loses.

I would hope that there could be reasoned discussion beyond name calling. He said that anyone who objects to same-sex marriage is “homophobic.” Labeling the opinions of those who disagree with one’s position “fallacious and illogical” is not helpful and does not to contribute to the discourse. Is it not possible that there are reasonable, thoughtful positions on both sides of the issue?
